Why Attackers Create a Sense of Urgency

A deadline can push someone to act before they have checked the context.

Less time to question the story

A short deadline can narrow attention to the consequence of doing nothing. An attacker may frame a request around lost access, a missed payment, or a problem that must be fixed immediately.

Urgent is not the same as authentic

Legitimate work can be urgent too. The question is whether the request and identity are verified, and whether the message asks you to bypass an established process.

Create room for a second look

Pause when a message combines pressure with a sensitive action. A brief check through a trusted channel can establish the context the message does not provide. Teams should make verification acceptable even when the story sounds time-sensitive.
